London Type Smog
London-type smog was caused mainly by air pollution due to combustion of coal and emission of sulphur dioxide (SO2) and dust. Such pollution mixed with fog can produce droplets of sulphuric acid (H2SO4) suspended in the air. When in 1952, in London, the concentration of SO2 during a smog event exceeded 3.5 mg per 1m3 of the air (or 3500 ug per 1m30), it caused massive cases of decease(Note: 1mg is 0.001g; another unit is 1 ug which is equal to 0.000001 g. So 1g=1000 mg or 1000000 ug).

London type smog is somewhat alike to acid rain. Acid rain, along with London type smog, is due to pollution from the burning of coal. London type smog is basically polluted fog, while acid rain is polluted and unnaturally acidic rain.
I liked the way that you described the important details of the London type smog. I was also blown away when you said that of what caused it and how to prevent this from happening.
mine is close to what Shelby said. Most of the acid rain is caused by burning fossil fuels, along with volcanoes, vegetation decay, and even sea spray.
